Deletion of Offensive Posts
Re: Deletion of Offensive Posts
Our anonymous poster was kind enough to give us a perfect example of a post that is offensive and serves no purpose and should be allowed to be deleted at the request of the person it was directed.
What possible business benefit is it to POS to allow anonymous non-customers to insult/offend their paying customers in such a public manner? Am I missing something here?

Re: Deletion of Offensive Posts
There is not a way, other than making everyone an administrator, to allow the deletion on posts by individuals that did not place the post. If we allowed this the result would be everyone deleting or editing posts placed by individuals other than themselves. So rather than having a new post that offends an individual you would have some people editing other peoples posts to make even more problems.
If some one is offended by a post they can just email me and let me know where the post is that offends them and the post will be given direct attention. I see no other way to handel the offensive posts.

Re: Deletion of Offensive Posts
So we email you, OK.
But it’s not the mechanism as much as the policy that is important. In order for it to be effective as a deterrent to bad behavior, it needs to be well known that is the policy and you need to be very liberal in granting those requests.
Currently you are encouraging the bad behavior by very publicly ignoring those requests. I’m sure the offenders are getting quite a kick out of seeing the ruckus that their inappropriate posts create. There is no-doubt someone is watching number of views on this thread right now. It’s like graffiti. The best deterrent is its quiet and immediate removal. The longer it stays and the more attention it gets, the more likely you are to get more.
There are a lot of your customers who are afraid to use the forums, and rightly so. They read the nasty personal attacks, attempts to poke fun at, attempts to embarrass people (like me) who use the forums while the people at POS sit back and do nothing. Actually worse than nothing, you appear to be encouraging the bad behavior. Why on earth would someone want to expose themselves to that ridicule knowing that there is no recourse and that POS will do nothing about it?
You also appear to be favoring anonymous, non-registered, non-“members” over the people who are actually paying money to support and run the site. That’s just bad business plain and simple.

Re: Deletion of Offensive Posts
Why we are on the subject, what about the following post was so offensive that you felt the need to delete it?

Yet you have left several other anonymous and clearly derogatory posts in place even though it has been requested that they be removed?
Your choice of what to delete and what to leave seems to be quite arbitrary. In order to be effective as a deterrent, your policy needs to be clear and objective and implemented consistently (even to people you don't like).
For example, if I were confident that you were implementing the policy I have suggested fairly, I would simply assume that "Joe" (even though he is not a paying member) requested the post be deleted. End of story. But since my requests for deletion of offensive posts have been ignored, I can only assume that the decision to delete my post was purely yours and capricious.
The offence may have been inadvertent originally, but by making the decision to delete or not to delete yours, you will be guilty of intentionally offending the Member if you fail to honor their request.
In addition, by making it purely your decision, you will offend one Member if you don't delete or potentially another if you do. It's a loose/loose situation you've made for yourself.

Re: Deletion of Offensive Posts
Kris,
You're a big boy, but you seem to complain a lot. Given all your knowledge of airplanes, business, websites, and seemingly everything else, why haven't you made your own forum which you could then govern any way you saw fit? In far less time than you've already spent complaining and nagging and whining and kicking and screaming on here, you could have been up and running. I realize that might not seem to be the case given the troubles here lately, but Bart did it in less than a day over at piperforum.com.
I'd invite you to come there, instead, but I don't want you to ruin another place the way you did this one. So, start up a place and let us all know. I'm sure we'll give you plenty of time and practice with your post deletion policies.

Not once has a request to delete a post because it attacks someone been ignored. The new web site makes the viewing of private post even easier to see. Let me know which post offends you and it will be given direct attention. I have done this for you more than anyone else combined!! I deleted an entire list of posts from one member and blocked him from the web site, per your request, this was a mistake. Just let me know what offends you and move on. It is only a web site and every attack does not have to keep you awake at night. Stop complaining and pointing your finger at the POS for everything that is wrong in the world or you may join the banned.
