Indicated Airspeed drop
With a 45 knot tailwind I had a deceasing IAS down to about 63kts flying into PNS ( I had a 108kt GS indicated on both GPS-530 & 396 Garmin). Flying into PDK later actually had the IAS drop to ZERO on final, again with good approach ground speed on both GPS's. Didn't see a vacuum failure light but didn't look over at the vacuum gauge on the right side of the panel.
Any idea as to problem? Vacuum pump failure? Water somewhere in the system? (flew through rain on both legs).
Appreciate any experience and insight/advice.
Re: Indicated Airspeed drop
Review section one of your private pilot ground school book, or this Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitot-static_system). Your airspeed indicator has nothing to do with your vacuum system. (Now you're starting to realize why understanding that stuff might be important!)
Your airspeed indicator relies on the pitot and static ports. If the airspeed indicator works the next time you fly on a dry day, then the rain was probably the culprit.
What was the outside air temperature when you were flying? (If it was cold enough, you could also have been picking up ice.) Do you have Pitot Heat in your plane? Might have helped...
