Best battery for a '64 140 - sealed or maintenance?

We used to have a maintenance battery in that lasted about three years. The Gill sealed batteries we have been replacing annually. Any one have suggestions on what works best.?

Thanks!

  • Continental RG35AXC. Battery maintainer (float type) recommended.

MikeL meant to say CONCORDE, not Continental. And I agree. The Concorde RG batteries are the best for aviation - PERIOD. The RG-35 or the RG-35AXC. Go with the XC if you need extra cranking life.

That said, even a Gill battery should be lasting more than a year. I would carefully monitor your buss voltage for a while and insure that your charging system is within specs. Your charging voltage should be very close to 14.2 volts. If you''re close to, or above, 15 volts you''re cooking those batteries to death. You absolutely want your charging system working well before installing an RG battery. They are very sensitive to overcharging.

    VFRs, without TFRs,
