I’m considering listing a high-time Piper and would appreciate input from owners who know these aircraft well.

The aircraft is N16319 with a Lycoming O-360-A4A. Total time is 15,400 hours, tach time is 9,008 hours, engine TSO is 4,172 hours, SMOH is 2,762.51 hours, and prop time is 376.8 hours. Next annual is due September 26, 2026.

The aircraft is is really good condition. Compressions are strong at 79/80, 78/80, 78/80, and 78/80. It is AD compliant, wing spar check is complete, IFR certified, and has a Garmin 696, uAvionix tailBeacon, gap seals, autopilot, dual Bendix/King 165 nav/comms, and complete records.

What would be a realistic asking price range, and what should I address up front when listing? I appreciate your input.

Mike

I’m trying to locate a turbo V band clamp for my Saratoga turbo to meet the AD requirements effective 7/17/23. My mechanic can not sign off my annual until mine is replaced per the AD and he cannot locate one. Basically I’m grounded unless we can locate one. Eaton Aerospace is the manufacturer, part #69861-377. If anyone knows of a distributor that currently has one please let me know. My mechanic has been told there is a 18 month backlog so I’m real concerned I would be able to meet my upcoming Angel flight obligations. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The holes have elongated slightly.

The shop is seeking input from Piper on an approved repair. Wondering if anyone has specific data on what's allowed. I'm wondering if the holes can just be reamed out and larger solid rivets installed, or if perhaps a doubler can be used.

Does anyone have knowledge of an STC for installation of vertically adjustable seats in the older Comanches?

I see that Comanche Serial numbers 24-4783 and 24-4804 and up, utilized seats with a part number prefix of 26617-xx, but I have not seen any of those seats on the salvage parts market.

I asked the IA at a nearby shop if he could get approval from the FSDO for an installation of structurally identical Piper Arrow vertically adjustable seats P/N 66984-00/01 on Form 337. The FSDO says no, FAA policy has changed, and this now requires an STC. Apparently crashworthiness and emergency egress studies now factor in to any approval.

Has anyone else looked into doing this modification?

It can be found at auto parts stores and online, including Amazon and is available in aerosol.

I am not associated with SEM in any way. I simply do my best to advise my fellow members what works.

Have a great weekend everyone! On Memorial Day, remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Good day all, finally have decided to post here and start digging through the forums. I am currently starting the process of restoring a 1969 Piper Cherokee that I rescued from a small airport. She had been sitting there for about 25+ years before I took ownership of her. Unfortunately before I got her the previous owner took the engine off and then someone broke into the aircraft stealing the cowlings, rudder trim, flap lever and taking a saw saw to the instrument panel to get the two obs out of it. The aircraft also unfortunately is missing log books so I will have to start that process of reconstruction. I thankfully have a very kind IA that will help in making sure all Ads and Sbs are redone and signed off. Tomorrow I am getting the spars inspected and hopefully pass. Once that is done then it will be more full steam ahead with the restoration. Unfortunately with it sitting so long there is a lot that needs to be replaced and cleaned. All of the help and support will be greatly appreciated as I navigate this great endeavor.

I’ve been flying with an iPad mini for a while, but I really don’t like the aviation cases that snap to a kneeboard (and they’re not cheap!) So I came up with a solution that I’m happy with.

The folio cases from Apple attach magnetically to the mini iPad. It’s quite strong and unlikely to come loose easily. So I used double sided gorilla tape to attach the case to a cheap kneeboard from Amazon. Now I can just snap it on magnetically, and remove it easily to put it in another similar case for when I’m not flying. Not bad for under $50.

Hello,

We have a Arrow 3 turbo 1977 and we live in Province of Quebec in Canada. Winter is quite cold here and despite winter kit installed on 2/3 of the air intake, the engine temperature is still bellow 180. There is sigh of water accumulation in the bleeder

I tried last week to occlude half of the last 1/3 of the air intake ( temperature was -5C at 5000 feet and engine temperature was still just below180. And it was not so cold outside.....

Are any of you dealing with similar cool oil temperature?

Are we to expect these low oil temps even in the summer?

As we are relatively new owners, we are not accustomed with the Arrow's oil temperature behavior.

Thank you,

Daniel

I am seriously looking to purchase a Piper Navajo. I am not a Pilot but I am a Licensed Boat Captain and run my own vessel all over the east coast and the Bahamas. I have homes in PA, Cape May NJ, and Jupiter Fl. My question is to ask how difficult is it to hire a day Pilot to fly my family and I around from different locations. I have found a hangar outside the Philadelphia PA area and have found a hangar in Stuart Florida. Plan is to keep plane in PA while flying weekly to Cape May NJ and deadheading the plane back to PA(1) hour flight. I would move the plane to Florida in the Winter.

I have a plan but no pilot and I really don't want a full time pilot. Can anyone shed some light on hiring day or multi day pilots for this plane.

Thank you in advance for your response.

Scott H.

The Ice Runway opened January 31st this year.

It's the only FAA certified ice runway in the lower 48 states.

Alton Bay seaplane port is located on the south west corner of lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire.

They open when the ice is over 12 inches thick and will stay open as long as it stays over 12 inches. It's usually stays open for 3 weeks. This year the runway is 2900ft long.

I've been 3 times this year in the Cherokee. Jan 31st, Feb 3rd, and Feb 14th.

Each time the runway was very different. On the 31st the temp was around 9F, and calm winds. Grip not bad.

The 3rd the temp was low 20s with calm winds. Grip was a bit less.

Today It was about 30F with variable winds, 2-4 kts. Grip was much less, as expected.

If anyone is in range I recommend it! Very interesting and fun!

Short field procedure's and no brakes until very slow.

This last time I got my certificate and "ice chip" (poker chip)

Link to the bill on the Senate Website: https://www.commerce.senate.gov/services/files/4D769D21-8592-4F07-A401-E80F036CB14E

Comes out of the hearings about what happened at DCA earlier this year. I've read through it but the transportation attorney in the household won't have a chance before this weekend, but the Bill's preface reads:

"A Bill To require all aircraft to be equipped with Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast In, to improve aviation safety, and for other purposes."

I mean it would 90 - 180 days before the FAA would be required to say what exactly that means. Would having my Stratus 3 wired in with the ESG be enough? Dunno until specifics. But that "and for other purposes" clause...think ADSB billing practices are bad now that would seem to break that door wide open.

Now still has to venture through committee to the Senate floor, to the House, so as proposed is not likely to be how it remains, but this is something everyone needs to keep an eye on.
