POSSIBLE INSTALLATION OF ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT SEAT ON OLDER COMANCHES
Having lost height as I have aged, I notice that I cannot look over the instrument panel and see the cowling on my, new to me, Comanche 250. Does anyone have knowledge of an STC for installation of vertically adjustable seats in the older Comanches?
I see that Comanche Serial numbers 24-4783 and 24-4804 and up, utilized seats with a part number prefix of 26617-xx, but I have not seen any of those seats on the salvage parts market.
I asked the IA at a nearby shop if he could get approval from the FSDO for an installation of structurally identical Piper Arrow vertically adjustable seats P/N 66984-00/01 on Form 337. The FSDO says no, FAA policy has changed, and this now requires an STC. Apparently crashworthiness and emergency egress studies now factor in to any approval.
Has anyone else looked into doing this modification?
