Turbo Lance Project

Grretings! I am new to this forum and also a new Piper Owner. I purchased a 1978 Turbo Lance II and decided to bring it up to snuff with a bunch of repairs and a zero hour engine from Lycoming. The project is expensive and is now becoming increasingly more difficult to find parts that have been neglected by the previous owners. The biggest issue we have come upon now is finding relacement firewall stiffeners to replace the ones that are "toasted" from all the heat from the turbo. Can anyone on here point me in the proper direction to find aftermarket parts that I don't have to get a second mortgage and wait for 180 days to receive??? The stiffeners are the big hold up right now.

Thanks!!

  • Congratulations on becoming a Piper owner!

I think that Piper has an exclusive contract with Aviall for parts distribution. You may want to ask a friendly maintenance shop whom has an account with them to quote you a price and availability https://www.aviall.com/frontdoor/suppliers/
No doubt that this might be an expensive solution....

I would consider checking a PMA supplier, such as McFarlane Aviation: http://www.mcfarlane-aviation.com for a new part.

Another option is to determine the parts you need (from a service manual) then start talking to the various salvage yards. The issue is going to be to find a plane that has not been nose wheel damaged - since this may have damaged the stiffners in question - though that damage may be limited to the engine mount.

    Perhaps try:
Kenny Faeth @ Faeth Aircraft Parts, 5954 Bradshaw Rd, Sacramento, CA 95829 Phone:(916) 368-1832
Air Salvage of Dallas - http://www.asod.com
    Wentworth

or even consider buying another plane as a donor? Perhaps consider the other PA-32 planes: Cherokee Six, Saratoga, 6X etc too?

    My two cents!

Good luck, and take some photos of your project, it sounds fun!
