PA 28 RT 201T: Access to the stabilator controls

PA 28 RT 201 T: After my last flight I had a "rubbing/rattling" noise coming from the legroom, when i move the control wheel back and forth. So i 'd like to check the pulleys and cables, but i can not find the access. Who can help?

  • On the Arrow (Arrow IV?), I believe that you have to remove the rear seats and the plywood board where the seats are attached. A borescope camera may help with an inspection. An IA/AP can check cable tension and pulley operations. If your annual is coming up, have your IA check.

  • Thank you, i got it.

  • Hi, if it is rubbing/rattling from the leg area it is likely a wire harness that has fell down. Use a bright light and your phone camera to record a video of the under panel and center area while you move the controls. You will likely need to adjust camera position multiple times.

You can look up how the controls are rigged form the parts diagram for clues on what is going on. I would not fly it until I was satisfied the root cause is found.
